Je Suis Charlie
Hey mum and dad,
I just want to let you know that I'm alright and that no harm has come to me or any of my friends. I am currently in Normandy at my hotel. I was watching the events on the news and I am terrified for the people of France and especially the people of Paris. in case you're not fully updated about the situation, Muslim extremists attacked a magazine called "Charlie Hebdo." that magazine is kind of like the Onion and the New Yorker in the sense that their craft is about political cartoons and poking fun at certain aspects. The attack happened in downtown Paris (specifically in the 11th arrondissement) and on the other side of town. This is where it happened.
My take on the situation is this:
People who resort to violence they can't take a joke or get over the fact that people are going to make fun of things whether they like it or not, is honestly despicable and ridiculous. I was talking about this earlier, that countries that have free speech and freedom of the press come with a high price. I also think that people who are willing to risk their lives just to publish something that is very offensive and opinionated, is very irresponsible and stupid. But this could just be a situation of religions against one another and that this situation happened to be a very tragic incident for France and specifically Paris...
